Chair of the Criminal Cases Division of the Supreme Court of Lithuania Participates in European Judges Network Meeting: Results of Lithuanian Court Evaluation Presented
2026-04-21

Gabrielė Juodkaitė-Granskienė, Chair of the Criminal Cases Division of the Supreme Court of Lithuania, participated in a meeting of a working group of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) in Brussels, where key developments shaping judicial systems across Europe were discussed.

At the meeting, the representative of the Supreme Court of Lithuania presented and discussed, together with other participants, the results of a pilot project conducted in the courts of Lithuania and France.“This survey was focused on court users and recipients of judicial services, providing valuable insights both for Lithuania and for other countries seeking to improve visitors’ experiences and strengthen public confidence in the judicial system,” said G. Juodkaitė-Granskienė.

According to the survey results, the assessment of Lithuanian courts is consistent with general European indicators and trends regarding trust in the judiciary. Presenting the findings, G. Juodkaitė-Granskienė emphasised that court users rated judicial independence above the European average. Similarly, when assessing their satisfaction with the manner in which judges conducted proceedings in their cases, respondents provided comparable evaluations, with average scores reaching approximately 7 out of 10 in both categories.

“It is encouraging that nearly 78 per cent of respondents are not only aware of the Judicial Council as an institution but are also familiar with its objectives and functions and understand its role in safeguarding judicial independence,” stated G. Juodkaitė-Granskienė.

The meeting also featured presentations on innovative practices implemented by European judicial councils, including the introduction of anonymisation tools, best practices in court budget planning, solutions for standardising the duration of court hearings, and other measures aimed at enhancing the efficiency of court operations.

Such meetings are important not only for the exchange of experience but also for the development of common standards and best practices within the European judicial area.
