Judge Gediminas Sagatys elected judge of the European Court of Human Rights
On the 23rd of January, 2024, judge Gediminas Sagatys of the Supreme Court of Lithuania was elected to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) as a judge by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
G. Sagatys was elected as an ECHR judge for a nine-year term, starting no later than three months after his election, after receiving an absolute majority of votes.
The judges are elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from a list of three candidates submitted by each state that has ratified the European Convention on Human Rights.
