A Justice of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Estonia, Heili Sepp, visited the Supreme Court of Lithuania. During the visit, the Justice was introduced to the Lithuanian court system and to other institutions of importance to the administration of justice.

Justice H. Sepp discussed current issues related to judicial practice, work organisation, and the role of judges with the President of the Supreme Court of Lithuania, Dr. Danguolė Bublienė, the Chair of the Criminal Division, Dr. Gabrielė Juodkaitė-Granskienė, and judges of that Division.

During her stay, H. Sepp attended oral hearings at the Supreme Court of Lithuania, the Court of Appeal of Lithuania, and the Vilnius Regional Court. She also met with a representative of the National Courts Administration, who presented the Lithuanian court system and the functions of the National Courts Administration.

During the visit, the Estonian Justice also visited the Prosecutor General's Office of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Forensic Science Centre. In addition, together with other judges of the Supreme Court of Lithuania, she met with the Director of the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania and toured the exhibition at the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights.

“Such visits contribute to strengthening international judicial cooperation, create opportunities for professional dialogue, and facilitate the exchange of institutional experience in the field of justice,” stated the President of the Supreme Court of Lithuania, Dr. Danguolė Bublienė.

This visit forms part of the annual judicial exchange programme of the Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union.
