Meeting of the Lithuanian and Latvian Judicial Ethics Commissions at the Court
A meeting of the Lithuanian and Latvian Judicial Ethics Commissions was held at the Supreme Court of Lithuania. During the meeting, the Chairpersons of the two Commissions - judge of the Supreme Court of Lithuania Sigita Jokimaitė and judge of the Žiemgala District Court Dace Skrauple - presented reports on the Commissions' activities and current issues in the field of judicial ethics.
An interesting discussion followed, which showed that the same challenges are faced by both Latvian and Lithuanian judicial ethics commissions. The main difference that emerged during the meeting is that the Latvian Judicial Ethics Commission is composed only of judges from different courts in Latvia and the Lithuanian Judicial Ethics and Discipline Commission includes not only four judges, but also one representative appointed by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and two representatives appointed by the President of the Republic of Lithuania.
