Representatives of the Court participated in the International Anti-Corruption Conference
On the 18th of June, the President of the Supreme Court Danguolė Bublienė and Chairperson of the Criminal Division Gabrielė Juodkaitė-Granskienė participated in the opening of the 21st International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), which took place in Vilnius. It is the world’s largest independent global forum in the fight against corruption.
This year’s conference theme - Confronting Global Threats: Standing Up for Integrity. 2000 participants from more than 140 countries gathered on June 18-21 to discuss the most important problems in the fight against corruption, future perspectives, transparency challenges related to climate change, distrust in the public sector and other topics.
Lithuania was chosen to host the conference by the IACC Council for its strategic significance in combating corruption since gaining independence over 30 years ago. The President of the Supreme Court D. Bublienė noted that the conference is relevant for the courts as well. The fact that the recent years data of the survey "Lithuania’s Corruption Map" shows negative assessment of the courts on issues of resistance to corruption makes us ask ourselves what we haven't done yet. This conference is a great opportunity to check not only some steps of the judicial system, but also the strategy of preventing corruption manifestations. G. Juodkaitė-Granskienė, Chairperson of the Criminal Division, drew attention to the fact that some time will have to pass before we will see the real result of the already planned measures, which is expected due to changes in the judicial system.
