On the 22-26th April, the President of the Supreme Court Danguolė Bublienė and judges of the Civil Division, as members of the Judicial Council, Sigita Rudėnaitė and Egidija Tamošiūnienė visited courts in Canada and were introduced with the Canadian judicial system and the latest judicial practices.

The Supreme Court's representatives took part in meetings with representatives of the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Court, the Ottawa Courthouse, the Courts Administration Service, the Canadian Judicial Council, and the National Judicial Institute.

During the meeting with Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, the issue of threats to the independence of the judiciary, and the need for judges to be more involved in public education and to strengthen communication with the public were discussed. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada shared their experience in organizing the Supreme Court of Canada's court hearings in the provinces rather than in the courthouse, as well as useful insights on the preparation of press releases to the general public.

During this visit various practices were discussed, such as case management, organization of hearings, court efficiency, and public relations, as well as training programs for the newly appointed judges, continuous professional development opportunities for judicial ethics training and other issues.

This visit was organized within the framework of the project "Improvement of Quality, Services and Infrastructure in Lithuanian Courts" implemented by the National Courts Administration.
