Representatives of the Supreme Court participated in the XXI ENCJ General Assembly
On June 4-6, the President of the Supreme Court and Judicial Council Danguolė Bublienė and the Chairperson of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court and member of the Judicial Council Gabrielė Juodkaitė-Granskienė participated in the XXI General Assembly of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ), which took place in Riga.
During the first part of the General Assembly, which was dedicated to members only, the ENCJ financial and activity reports were presented, and the General Council of the Judiciary was elected as a member of the Executive Board for a two-year term. This member replaced the Latvian Council for the Judiciary, which had been a member until June 2025.
The ENCJ members approved the strategy of the Network for 2026–2029, based on which the implementation plan for the 2025–2026 strategy was discussed.
During this meeting, a declaration of Riga was adopted. Recent political shifts, societal changes, changes in the media landscape, and effects of digital advances have given rise to challenges to the Rule of Law. The declaration singles out the areas where such challenges arise from the viewpoint of Councils for the Judiciary.
